CineDrunk: Best of 2019 - Top Ten Lists

Remember 2019? We don’t either.

Luckily we do remember a few of the movies we saw, enough to create personal top ten lists, one from each of your CineDrunk hosts. We’ve got Popes, portraits, and parasites, and we even found a few of those elusive Lady Directors!

These are the 2019 movies that stuck with us, the movies that helped us understand ourselves and our world, or just let us escape for a few hours, or reminded us of beauty we’d forgotten.

Cheers to 2019. Cheers to art. Cheers to voting the national tumor out of office in 2020. Onward!

The 5th Annual CineMunchies: The Films & Scenes of the Year

The 5th Annual CineMunchies: The Films & Scenes of the Year

And now for the final envelope!

We dished about our favorite films of 2018 in our Top Ten podcast, then we awarded the first batch of our 5th Annual CineMunchies to the performances of the year, so now it's time to throw the last bit of dirt on the cinematic grave of 2018 with the CineMunchies honoring the best scenes of last year at the movies.

To determine our collective top ten films of 2018, we attributed points based on our personal rankings, and those with the most points became our honorees. For other categories, we used a combination of secret ballot, tea leaves, and martini-fueled caucusing.

Cheers to another year of cinematic superlatives!

CineDrunk: Best of 2018's First Half

We pressed pause on 2018 to take stock, praise the praiseworthy, and relegate the rest to the dustbin of history. Pour yourself the Drink of the Summer (an Aperol Spritz) and press play to listen in. Also find out if tired movie formulas can find success simply by casting (gasp) humans other than straight white men! (Spoiler: they can. OH THEY CAN.)

If We Had an Oscar Ballot 2017

If We Had an Oscar Ballot 2017

What follows is a hypothetical scenario in which we are Academy voters who commit the ultimate sin of showing you our completed ballots. Never mind that ballots were due several days ago - we're professional procrastinators.

Note: Like many Oscar voters, we could go through the motions of voting in all 24 races, but, for the sake of honesty (and what we hope the real voters practice), we'll abstain from the categories where we have yet to see all the nominees. So no Animated Feature (though we'd maybe vote for Coco anyway because it's amazing), Foreign Film, Documentary Short, or Documentary Feature (though we were won over by the charming Faces Places). But enough about what we didn't see - here's who and what we're rooting for Sunday night!

So no Animated Feature (though we'd cast one vote each for Moana and Zootopia of those we've seen), Foreign Film, Documentary Short, or Documentary Feature (we braved the 7+ hours of O.J.: Made in America, but still have two nominees to see for completion's sake). Oh, and no Makeup & Hairstyling either because we can't be bothered to watch Suicide Squad. But enough about what we didn't see - here's who and what we're rooting for Sunday night!
